Roll grinding is a specialized form of cylindrical grinding requiring considerable skill as it is precision grinding of a high order. The rolls ground are tools themselves used to size, shape or impart a finish to other materials which are generally much larger than parts found in conventional cylindrical grinding.
Aluminum oxide and silicon carbide cylindrical organic and vitrified wheels and diamond tools are used to impart the desired finish and to bring to desired dimensions of rolls. These rolls are used in the manufacture of metal rolls and flat stock.
